SMALLEST RAILWAY
OPENED IN ENGLAND BOY’S DREAM COMES TRUE By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright LONDON, Saturday. The smallest public railway in the world is to be opened this afternoon. This is the nine miles route between Hythe and New Romney. Although of toy-like dimensions, including a 15-incli gauge, this railway cost £50,000. It is the outcome of the boyhood dreams of Captain Howey, a racing motorist, who superintended its construction. Captain Howey expects to make a profit despite the fact that it will be possible to charter a special train for 15s. Porters can lift the goods waggons off the line. The engines are of the latest design, and have a speed of 30 miles an hour, although a coal-scuttle shovel will suffice to stoke the fuel. —A. and N.Z.
