LAKE ROAD COLLISION

CARS BADLY DAMAGED A five-seater motor-car driven bv Dr. C. M. Rout, of Devonport, and a two-seater car, driven by Mr. H. T. Whitten, collided on the hill in Lake Road, Devonport, near the brickworks, at about 5.40 p.m. on Saturday. Dr. Rout was driving down hill, while Mr. Whitten, who was accompanied by his son, aged 14, and Mr. J. Mowbray, of Tiri Road, Takapuna, was going in the opposite direction. All the occupants of the two-seater car were thrown out on the roadway, Mr. Mowbray being unconscious when picked up. He was taken home suffering from shock. Both cars were considerably damaged, and had to be towed to a garage for repairs. Mr. "Whitten’s car was almost totally wrecked. The other heavier car had the front bumper torn off, the right front wheel buckled and the windscreen broken. None of the occupants was seriously injured. In the Police Court this morning Harry Thomas Whitson, aged 50, was charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Lake Road. He was remanded until July 26.
