PROPOSED LOAN
POLL TO BE TAKEN £500,000 FOR TRAMWAYS On Saturday the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. Baillon, receved notice of the proposed loan of £500,000 for tramway development in the city from the Local Government Loans Board. Immediate steps will be taken to take a poll of ratepayers on the loan. It is proposed that 50 new tramcars will be built to meet the extended service which it is expected will be inaugurated. In the Remuera district the lines may be extended to the city boundary at Meadowbank Road, and at Mount Eden from the present terminus to Mount Albert Road. Other extensions which were approved by the City Council in March on the programme of new works will be put into operation if the poll is carried.
