HELP FOR COUNTRY SCHOOLS (.Special to TIIE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. ‘•Econqmy does not necessarily mean the cutting down of expenditure, but the prevention of waste,” said the Hon. R. A. Wright, at Hawarden yesterday. “Any economy I may practice is not aimed at lessening efficiency, but at avoiding waste.” The Minister of Education was speaking in reply to criticisms that had been levelled at his policy of what was considered too great economy. -Sir. Wright said that whatever money could be saved in his department by practical economy would bo spent on country schools and on improving conditions for country teachers.
