The Log Book

PERSONAL. —Captain A. H. Howie, of the Corinna, is on sick leave. Captain E. R. Lowe, of the Opihi, has been transferred to the command of the Corinna, and Mr. A. F. Inman, late chief officer of tire Maheno, has been appointed acting master of the Opihi. Mr. N. M. Bonetti, chief officer of the Kurow, has transferred to the Whangape, relieving Mr. R. Duncan, who will go on holidays.

Mr. W. J. Madden, late third officer of the Kamo, has been appointed third officer of the Oonah, at Melbourne, relieving Mr; A. L. Brierley, who is transferring to the Kekerangu as third officer. Mr. R. DufCner is being granted holiday leave.

Captain J. W. Binks is in command of the Athenic, now on the coast loading, and his officers are:—Chief, Mr. J. Foyster: first, Mr. G. P. Walters; second, Mr. T. Holmes; third, Mr. F. L. Kean; fourth, Mr. W. Hill; fifth, Mr. A. H. Griffiths; chief engineer, Mr. J. E. Roberts; second, Mr. H. Purvis; third, Mr. J. E. Foulkes; extra third, Mr. H. Mossman; fourth, Mr. A. Atkin-, son; extra’fourth, Mr. J. Lomas; fifth, Mr. A. V. Fryer; sixth, Mr. J. C. Hobling; boilermaker, Mr. S. Ablett; electrician, Mr. A. Rushton; purser, Mr. E. W. Lancaster; radio operators, Messrs. G. E. Rigby, O. A. Read, and J. Spear: surgeon. Dr. J. E. Hessian. WHANGAPE SAILING.— At eight o’clock to-night the Union Company is dispatching the steamer Whangape from Auckland for Newcastle, where she will load again for this port. ARAWA LEAVES MONTEVIDEO. —Cabled news has been received by the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company that their liner Arawa arrived at Montevideo last Wednesday evening from Wellington, and sailed again on Friday evening for Teneriffe and London. The vessel sailed from Wellington on June 16.

CARGO FROM LIVERPOOL. Cabled news has been received by the Federal Company that th.e Westmoreland sailed from Liverpool on Monday with general cargo to discharge at Auckland. Napier. Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. The vessel is due at Auckland on August 15. Captain PI. W. Gardener is in command.

SYDNEY STEAMERS. —The Union Company advises that the Maheno leaves Sj-dney this morning for Wellington and the Marama sails at 3 p.m. to-day for Auckland. Both vessels are due at their New Zealand ports next Tuesday morning. TOFUA SAILS TO - MO R ROW.— The Union Company advises that the Island passenger steamer Tofua will leave Auckland at 11 a.m. to-morrow for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. The Tofua will this trip call at Levuka en route from Suva to Nukualofa.

MAMARI COMPLETING.— To complete her loading the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Mamari arrived at Wellington this morning for New Plymouth. She is to sail to-morrow evening for London via Montevideo and Teneriffe.

MATAKANA FURTHER POSTPONED. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the steamer Matakana, now completing her loading at Port Chalmers, will now finally leave on Tuesday next, July 19, for London via Cape Horn route.

PORT PIRIE DELAYED. — Owing to had weather at Wanganui, the C. and D Line steamer Port Pirie has been delayed, and will not leave until tonight for Wellington, where she completes loading and finally departs on Monday next for London Ada St. Vincent

HUNTINGDON LATE.— The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Pluntingdon now leaves Lyttelton to-day for Wellington and Auckland to complete her loading. She is due here on July 22 and is fixed to leave this port finally on July 26 for London and West of England ports.

NORFOLK AT LONDON. Advice by cable has been received by the Federal Company that the Norfolk arrived at London on July 11 from Auckland, via New York and Boston. She sailed from Auckland on May 2S. The vessel will complete discharge at West Coast of Great Britain ports. MARORO LOADING. —The threemasted schooner Maroro will be ready to sail in a few days. Final adjustments are being made to her engines to-day, and to-morrow she will load a cargo of coal and steel here, and then pi'oceed to Portland to take on a quantity of cement. She sails finally about Tpesday next for Tolaga Bay and Gisborne.

TAHITI LEAVES SYDNEY.— The R.M.S. Tahiti left Sydney at 4.15 p.m. yesterday for Wellington. She is due there on Monday morning, and will leave the following afternoon for San Francisco, Ada Rarotonga and Papeete. MATAROA AT SOUTHAMPTON.— Cabled news has been received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company that the Mataroa arrived at Southampton on Monday evening from Wellington. The vessel left Wellington on June 4.

M A KURA AT ’FRISCQ.— CabIed advice has been received by the Union Company that the Makura arrived at San Francisco on Tuesday morning from Auckland. The vessel is scheduled to leave again at 2 p.m. to-day for Papeete, Wellington and Sydney. MOERAKI DELAYED.— The Union Company advises that the Moeraki has been delayed at Melbourne, and will now leave there to-day for Wellington, via Southern ports. She is due at Wellington on July 22, and will then withdraw from the service, her place being taken by the Manuka.

PORT HARDY DEPARTS.— ShortIy after 7 o’clock this morning the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Hardy was dispatched from Auckland for New York, Boston and London, via Panama. Besides mails and cargo the steamer took the following passengers:—Mr. and Mrs. Crow, Mr. J. Wilks, Mr. and Mrs. Seymour, Mrs. Wyles and son, Mr. Irving, Mr. Studd, Mr. and Mrs. Tangye, Mr. W. Donald and Dr. Axford, who will act as ship's surgeon. ATHENIC AT NAPlEß. —Arriving at Napier this morning from Wellington. the White Star liner Athenic will later proceed to Waikokopu. thence Gisborne, Tokomaru Bay and Auckland to complete her loading. She is due here on July 27, and is scheduled to sail finally from this port on July 30 for Southampton and London via Panama. L. D. Nathan and Company wifi be the local agents. PORT DUNEDIN’S MOVEMENTS. Due at Wellington to-day from Napier, the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Dunedin will leave to-morrow for New Plymouth and Auckland to complete her loading. She is due here on July 25, and is expected to depart finallv from Auckland on July 28 for Genoa, Marseilles and London via Australia and Suez

MAUNGANUI AT SUVA.— En route from Vancouver via Honolulu, the Union Company advises that the R.M.S. Maunganui arrived at Suva at 6 o’clock this morning and sailed at noon for Auckland. She is due here at 11 a.m. on Monday and is announced to sail from Auckland at noon the following day for Sydney. WAITEM AT A ARRS VI NG.— OAving to heavy weather the Union Company’s steamer Waitemata will not arrive at Auckland until Sunday from Pacific Coast ports. She Avill berth at the King’s Wharf to land the local portion of her cargo and leaves again on Tuesday for Napier, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney to complete.

CARGO FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the steamer Kartigi which loaded at South Australian ports and Stanley, Tasmania, Avill leave Melbourne to-day for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due here about Thursday next.

CARGO FROM EAST CANADA— The New Zealand Shipping: Company are in receipt of cabled news that the SchouAven arrived at Sydney, Cape Breton, on July 8 to load for New Zealand ports. She left the following day for Cornerbrook and Montreal, and will lea\*e the latter pprt on July 25 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton anl Dunedin.

PORT HUNTER CLEARS PANAMA —The C. and D. Line have been notified by cablegram that the Port Hunter passed through the Panama Canal on July, 9, in the afternoon, en route front Liverpool to New Zealand ports. The vessel is due at Auckland on August 2.

THE BARON MINTO. —No further radio advice has been received from the Napier and Miller steamer, Baron Minto, which is en route from Chile to Auckland. The A-essel is due here on Sunday, but on account of the rough weather at sea in the past few days, she may not arrive then. From here the A'essel goes to Australia to complete the discharge of her cargo of nitrate of soda.

R EMU ERA SAILING. —A projected departure from Auckland at 4 o’clock this afternoon for Southampton and London, via Panama, is the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Remuera. As well as mails and cargo the is taking the following passengers :
