V.A.D.’S AND W.A.A.C.’S
MEMBERSHIP OF R.S.A. SOLDIERS IN FAVOUR . A proposal to admit to the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association women of auxiliary forces who had seen war service, was outlined by Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, a member of the Executive Committee, at a meeting of the committee last evening. He suggested that the Auckland Association’s definition of a returned soldier should be altered to conform to the definition of the New Zealand Association. so as to include V.A.D.’s and W.A.A.C.’s. or other women who served with the overseas forces. He proposed to have them admitted with full privileges as honorary members at a small subscription. Mr. E. W. Inder opposed the suggestion on principle, and moved that women war workers be not admitted as members of the association. This was seconded by the chairman pro forma, but was lost when put to the vote. On an amendment by Mr. F. M. Cox it was decided that all women war workers, other than nursing sisters, who served overseas should be admitted to full membership at an annual subscription of 10s, provided that the rules of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association could be complied with. It was also decided to obtain a ruling on the point from headquar- , ters.
