THE HUNTED HARE

Passengers on the Limited witnessed an exciting chase at Waioro this morning. A hare jumped out of the snow near the station and made off, but -before it had gone very far a Maori noticed it an! scampered in pursuit. Handicapped by the snow the bare could only flounder. Every time it jumped it sank deeper into the soft snow. Before the unfortunate animal had gone very far the Maori had grabbed it and carried it triumphantly back to the train. With an eye to early morning business the Maori tried to sell his catch to the passengers, but they did not feel disposed to buy.
