N.Z. RUGBY LEAGUE SEEKS INVITATION FROM AUSTRALIA
It was decided at a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League held last evening to seek an invitation from the Australian Board of Control for a New Zealand team to tour Australia this season. The discussion was the result of a cable received from Australia, advising the inability of the Board of Control to send a team to the Dominion this year. The invitation had been referred to the various State Leagues, and a reply had been received from New South Wales, stating that it could not send a side to New Zealand this year. It was stated by Mr. W. Carlaw that the council was badly in need of funds, and he felt certain that a judiciously arranged tour would prove a great benefit to the code in New Zealand. He was of the opinion that only New South Wales should be visited. According to Mr. Stallworthy, Auckland strongly opposed any Dominion team going to Australia. He said that the council would be doing a better service to all leagues by fostering the game in New Zealand first. The council’s Advisory Committee then tabled a recommendation that the Board of Control be asked to invite a New Zealand team to tour Australia, and this recommendation was put and carried. H. F.
