LEAGUE CHAIRMAN’S TRIP TO ENGLAND
MR. HAMMILLS PLANS A good deal of gossip is going the rounds with reference to the reported retirement of Mr. W. J. Hammill from the chairmanship of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League. It is Mr. Hammill's intention to make a trip to England in the near future, and he feels that it would be a good thing if someone else took up the running in the chief executive position in the Auckland League. Speaking to a representative of THE SUN to-day, Mr. Hammill s :id : apart from the fact that he was going abroad, he had had a good innings and he felt that there was always .1 time when a man had outlived his usefulness in whatever sphere he was engaged in. Asked if there was any truth in the rumour that his intention to resign had anything to do with differences in the management of the code. Mr. Hammill laughed, and said. 4 Yoi can take it from me. there is nothing in that.” He added that ho had lOs none of his enthusiasm for the game, and he hoped that when lie was away he would be able to gain information about the work of Rugby leagues j r other countries which would be of valuto the code in New Zealand.
