SOCCER DISPUTE ENDS THISTLE MEETS SHORE ON SATURDAY “The dispute between the Auckland Football Association and the Thistle Football Club is now ended, to the absolute satisfaction of both parties, and the Thistle Club will be in action next Saturday.” So runs the official communique issued to the Press last evening, and signed by Mr. Andrew Menzies, chairman of Auckland Football Association management, and Mr. F. Pickering, chairman of the Thistle Club committee. As indicated in THE SUN on Tuesday, prominent office-bearers in the Auckland Football Association had intervened in an attempt to heal the threatened breach, and an amicable settlement was pending. The final negotiations concluded yesterday afternoon and the incident has now closed with good feeling and mutual congratulations between all parties. Followers of the Soccer code are congratulating Mr. Ernest Davies, president of the A.F.A., and Mr. H. S. W. King, an active vice-president, on the tactful manner in which they approached a very delicate situation and brought it to a happy final issue with friends of the club. It would have been a great loss to the code had the breach continued, and considerably weakened Auckland’s chances of lowering the colours of the Canadians in their farewell match here on July 30. Thistle will now meet its old rival, Shore, in the local semi-final of the Chatham Cup on Saturday.
