MAORI RUGBY TEAM’S AUCKLAND VISIT
A.R.F.U. NOT SATISFIED At last night’s meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union, the position in regard to the Maori team’s visit was discussed. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Rugby Union drawing attention to the fact that the Maori team had to be supplemented by several local players, thus reducing the attraction very considerably and generally causing much public criticism relative to the arrangements. The Auckland Union viewed with disfavour the fact that such a state of affairs should have been permitted to arise. Further, it was strongly of opinion that Barclay, who was understood to have given his assurance that he would captain the team during its tour through New Zealand, should at least have shown more consideration than he did in respect of the initial match. OTHER BUSINESS The chairman reported the Rodney Rugby Union now desired a match on July 30. It was decided to advise that the Auckland Union was unable to send a team this year. Permission was granted to the Auckland Referees’ Association to play its annual match against Helensville on August 20. The Northern Wairoa Rugby Union wrote asking for an Auckland team to be sent to Wairoa on August 13, and offering £35 toward expenses. On the recommendation of the Match Committee it was decided to grant the request. . , The Waitemata Club wrote stating the Marist senior B team failed to keep its engagement last Saturday, it was reported the Marist team did not put in an appearance owing to a misunderstanding as to the concentration de A°request from the Silverdale School for a football was granted. The New Zealand Railways Traffic Department advised that the V* train would be delayed on July 23 to suit the return of the Auckland team, on the occasion of the match against Whangarei. Mr R Cooper was appointed manager’of the Auckland team to travel to Hamilton, and Mr. A. Tiley. of the team to play at Whangarei on July 13.
