THE NEW REGENT

“CHILDREN OF DIVORCE” Another notable programme of pictures, vaudeville and music will be presented to-morrow at the New Regent Theatre, when, in addition to a wealth of varied attractions, the theatre’s new and superb operatic orchestra, augmented by artists selected personally by Maurice Guttridge, will make its first appearance. The star film offering will be the sensational Paramount spcial, “Children of Divorce,” in which the most vital problem of the age is exposed in vivid fashion. As the title suggests, it deals with the problems that are left for neglected children of divorced parents to solve. “What happens to the poor, cast-off children of divorce?” the picture asks. “Does the future hold anything for them? Are they damned from the start—ho parents—no guidance—just drifters?” Clergy of all denominations are expounding the evils of divorce and this daring screenplay deals straight-forwardly with the tremendous problem. Clara Bow an 4 Esther Ralston head a remarkable cast, as the two children of divorce, for whom life holds nothing but sorrow, until bitter tragedy ends the life of one and paves the way to happiness for the other. More realistic, appealing porti'ayals than those given by the two stars have rarely been seen upon the screen. The film has its “jazzy” moments, but in the main, it is a stark drama of the most gripping kind, building swiftly from one powerful situation to another. The fourth of the popular music master series, showing incidents from the life of the deaf genius, Beethoven, will be shown and will be accompanied by beautiful synchronised music by the new operatic orchestra. Further novelty “Song Slides,” with Eddie Horton at the Mighty Wurlitzer, will also be presented. Jeannette Gerrard, of J. C. Williamson Celebrity, is still scoring big - successes with her novelty scena. The plan for the season of this remarkable bill is available at the theatre. Phone 46-888.
