Favourites Routed York Abbey and Bevis made a warm pace from the start, being clear at the second hurdle from Lady Passenger Aberfeldy, Inferno, Joyeuse, Peshwa and Potoanui. Along the back the leaders stopped quickly, and Aberfeldy led into the straight from Potoanui, Kaikahu, Guncase, Bonena and Vexatious. In the run home, Aberfeldy did the best, winning by two lengths from Kaikahu, with Vexatious a neck away then came Potoanui. Bonena, Guncase Peshwa and Lady Passenger. MAIDEN HANDICAP Of 200 sovs.; 6 furlongs. I—DUKE ABBEY, 9.0 (Green) 1 S—SUBDIVISION, 9.6 (.McTavish) ” 2 4 WALTZER. 9.11 (Tinker) ...... 3 Also Started.—Tameterangi 10.2, Cerf 10.2, Ayro 9.12, Catapult 9.8, Oratrix 9.5, Cornstalk 9.4, Card Trick 9.2, Debate 9.0, Hitters 9.0, Philanderer 9.0, Town Hall f.O. Arrow Boy 9.0. Won by three lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time, 1.20£. Duke Abbey Finishes Best Subdivision, Duke Abbey, Cerf, Waltzer, Flitter, Oratrix and Avro were most prominent to the course proper. At tho distance Subdivision was well clear of Duke Abbey, but the latter wore the leader down, to beat him by three lengths. Waltzer four lengths away, just in front of Avro, Tameterangi, Cerf, Arrow Boy and Catapult. SEATOUN HANDICAP Of 260 sovs.; 7 furlongs. I—PE HO (A. Won by three-quarters of a length, third horse one and a-half lengths away. Time, 1.39 J. Ail in a Bunch Rowley and Romantic led the field away from the barrier, but entering the straight the field was in line, a great finish giving a win to Peho by half a length. Romantic keeping in a place, finishing half a length behind Royal Head. SECOND HACK STEEPLES Of 26050v5.; 21 miles. TAIAIATA (S. Spence), b g, by Lucullus—Avon Park, 6yrs, 9.8 . . 1 I.—HOKIOI (D. McCauley), b g, by Day Comet—Tinokai, 6yrs, 10.2 2 4. KIRKWOOD (F. Ormond), b g py Sarto-—Waiohiki, aged, 9.0 3 Also started: Comedy Prince, 10.4; Curragh, 9.0; Maidos, 9.0. Winner trained by J. Foyer, Hawera. A Poor Race It was a poor race. Maidos tried to win all the way, but six furlongs from home Hokioi went to. the front. Taitaiata joined him at the second to last fence and the latter beat the favourite home by five lengths. Kirkwood was twenty lengths away, and at intervals came Maidos and The Curragh. Comedy Prince fell at the second to last fence.

Old Favourite Wins Again A good start saw the field settle down to the lead of Master Doon, Shining Armour, and Alloway, the rest strung out. Entering the back Shining Armour took the lead, and for a time there was little alteration. Master Doon then took the lead again from Shining Armour, Nukumai moving up ou third place, with Alloway next. Shining Armour disappeared and Nukumai gained a good position, and was galloping well. At the home bend Nukumai moved up to the lead, and Ngata made a short appearance, coming fast on the outside. Master Doon did not have a challenge left, and Alloway was making a good race of it, and entering the straight took the lead, but Nukumai came away again to win a great race, Alloway second, and Master Doon managing to keep third place, several lengths away.
