TO BUY WOOL FOR RUSSIA

VISITOR TO AUSTRALIA DIRECT TRADE SOUGHT By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright SYDNEY, Wednesday. M. Jules Patiagorsky, vice-president of the Textile Import Company, of Russia, who arrived in Sydney this week, states he has come to Australia to buy and ship wool direct to Russia. He will attend all the wool sales, instead of, as previously, operating through the English markets. His company, he said, purchased raw material for all the woollen mills in Russia. A representative of the company had been buying here for the past four months and he had alreadv bought 17.500 bales. M. Patiagorsky pointed out that the textile industry in Russia was so large that it would always be a factor in the wool trade. Russia obtained 70 per cent, of her wool requirements from Australia. The fact that his company was acting through English firms was proof that hiso perations were in no way connected with the recent break with Russia. The company was also continuing to operate in London and Bradford. M. Patiagorsky said his visit here was in no way connected with politics. His was purely a commercial company, in no way allied with Arcos. Ltd. He expects to largely increase the company’s wool operations in Atistralia. —A. and N.Z. When the visit to Australia of M. Patiagorsky was referred to the Minister of Markets, Mr. T. Paterson, ho said he saw no reason why Australia should not sell wool to Russia on the same terms as to the people of any other country in the world.
