PIECE-WORK DISPUTE

AUSTRALIAN AWARD WORKERS RESTIVE By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright Reed. 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Members of the Metal Trades Employers’ Association decided to adopt the daily hiring system, and continue to pay the same overtime rates as were paid in the past. Although this means an increase of 12s 6d a week in the workers’ wages, the engineering unions claim that it represents a loss to members, as the award makes no provision for holiday or sick pay. The award becomes operative today. A mass meeting of unionists will be held to-night.
