DEBENTURES FIRM TIMBERS WEAK Business on the ’Change is good, many sales being recorded. All bank shares are inclined to weaken, with the exception of National of Australia and Union of Australia. The insurance section is steady with frequent sales in both New Zealand and South British. Timber shares still remain weak. Sales have been made in Bartholomew shares at reduced prices. LAST OF THE TINGARA.— AII fittings of any value on the training ship Tingara are to be removed. For this purpose the vessel was towed recently from Rose Bay to moorings alongside Garden Island, Port Jackson, and squads of workmen will shortly set to work. Arrangements are being made to transfer her complement to other units of the navy. Several batches of cadets have already gone on leave. NEW PIPE LINE. —At the opening of the new Alwand Refinery of the Ivhanaquin Oil Company, a subsidiary of the Anglo-Persian Company, King P’eisal stated that they hoped shortly to give the good news to the world of the construction of a pipe-line from Irak to the Mediterranean. If this pipe-line is constructed it must have a serious effect on the employment of oiltank steamers, as it will materially shorten the length of the voyage.
