NEW CAR MODELS AT OLYMPIA
CROWDS AT MOTOR SHOW MANY FINE EXHIBITS Interest 1n Olympia is increasing, and there have been large attendances in spite of the adverse weather conditions. Ten thousand people have now entered the sheds at Central Wharf to see the latest productions of the motor industry. Although there is not a numerically strong showing of English cars, keen competition from British manufacturers is evident this year, and agents are this year showing a great variety. The noticeable difference between the American and English cars is in the method adopted by the manufacturers to produce the low-priced vehicle. The American invariably continues to produce a fairly large-sized car, but a lower price in British cars invariably means that everything in the make-up is reduced in size, the engine and its components, the chassis, track, and length, and naturally the body, and the accommodation. A very high standard is maintained whatever the size, and the result is that very few of the British cars are much under £350, and a car of any weight and size invariably runs over £4OO. The American manufacturers produce nothing small—that is small in the way of over-all measurements, but they manage to give a big car for a comparatively small price.
As fine a showing of modern cars as has ever been assembled in New Zealand, each different in its way, each containing some feature that appeals, is being inspected by over 3,000 people a day. _________
