MOUNT ALBERT TRAMS
BUS SERVICE WANTED domain improvements THE CORPORATION had no trams to relieve the rush-hour congestion to Mt. Albert, but when cars were available the question would bo attended to. That was the effect of the corporation tramways manager’s reply received by the Mount Albert Borough Council meeting last evening in reply to a complaint made by the council. The Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, expressed the opinion that the letter was not a satisfactory reply. The council had buses as well, and why not use them? he asked. A. Voice: Yes. G.O.C. buses. The Mayor moved that the tramways manager be written to suggesting the use of buses at peak hours, and on the suggestion of a councillor incorporated a request that the tram reported to have been taken off the Mount Albert route to serve the Mt. Eden residents should be replaced. The Aroha Ladies’ Progressive Club asked the council to provide for basketball and tennis courts on Malvern Road Domain —the ladies on their part offered to equip the courts and to work for any further improvements to play areas for children in the Mount Albert district. The council referred the letter to the Domains Board. Twenty-seven permits for buildings to the value of £7,202 have been issued and 21 dwellings are in course of construction, reported the building inspector. The ranger reported that three stray dogs had been sent to the city to be destroyed, and another, which had been hurt by a motor-car, had been destroyed.
