QUICKER THAN CALIFONTS!

FORMERLY a labourer considered himself lucky if his house was fitted with an ordinary washing copper with a fireplace underneath. When a bath was required the water had to be carried upstairs by hand. In the latest London County Council building schemes, however, the copper is fitted with a semi-rotary wing pump alongside and a pipe leading direct to the bath upstairs. A few strokes of the pump handle, taking altogether a minute and a half, are sufficient to transfer the boiling water from the copper straight to the bath. It is interesting to know that all the pumps are of British manufacture.
