TAURANGA CHAMBER
The Chamber of .Commerce met last night, Mr. R. Rutter, president, in the chair. The hire-purchase system was fully debated and legislation is to be asked for with the object of compelling all documents in this connection to be registered. The Daylight Saving Bill met with the favour of the chamber. It was resolved that the chamber approve of the principle of compulsory insurance for motor vehicles, providing only that the Government collect the premiums with the licences, and that all owners carry a considerable percentage of the risk. The Harbour Board is to be asked to have a suitable ceremony at the official opening of the new railway wharf and sheds. Full inquiries as to tobacco culture are to be obtained with a view to getting small farmers to grow tobacco.
