A BABY PROBLEM

BAFFLES LONDON POLICE It’s only in the nature of things for bold, bad crooks to plague the life of Scotland Yard. But surely it is something new to find a baby giving the sleuths of London almost as much trouble as a smash-and-grab robber. For days past detectives have hunted high and low for a baby, said to have been the property of a lady living at Wembley. The lady, it was stated, left her residence suddenly on May 6. All trace of her was lost until on Tuesday last she was found by a friend on Marylebone Station platform, having completely lost her memory. The only thing she could remember, she said was that she had been in a nursing home and had borne a child. She recollected being put into a taxicab by two nurses and taken to Marylebone Station. She had not the least idea where the nursing home was or what had become of the child. Thus the police were confronted with a baffling problem. Doctors were Questioned and nursing homes visited, but all to do effect, until the mystery was solved in a dramatic and unexpected fashion. It was solved by the simple announcement that the “lost” baby had never been born at all!
