ROAD ACCIDENTS
INCREASE IN AUCKLAND II DEATHS, 221 INJURED FIRST HALF OF 1927 Traffic accidents are on the increase in Auckland. For the first ralf of the year 11 people have been killed, and 221 injured, the ,econd quarter of the year showing six deaths, and 99 more perions injured than in the first (luarter. THE huge increase in accidents is being taken seriously by the aU i borities Vehicle accidents totalled '7i: for the April-May-June quarter—or an average of three reported accidents a day- as against 219 in the previous quarter. in most cases both drivers and pedestrians were to blame, where pedestrians were involved, and only , very small percentage of mishaps vere regarded as unavoidable. The six deaths included three children. \ return for the three months, April ! to June 30, furnished by Superintendent Wohlmann, shows that pede„[rians were involved in 104 of the 272 accidents; private cars were concerned with other vehicles in 125 accidents: and the balance of 43 included collisions between commercial vehicles and motor cycles.
