A "MOVIE” MONOPOLY?
CONSPIRACY CHARGES drastic action taken By Cable.— Press Association. — Copyrig'nl ASHINGTON, Saturday. The Federal Trade Commission lias issued an order citing the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation for conspiring “to monopolise or attempt to monopolise the motion picture industry. The charge refers particularly to mter-State and foreign commerce in the production, distribution and exhibition of cinema films, by compelling exhibitors to take all or none of a group of films without regard to the character of the pictures or the wishes of the picture house, and by acquiring, or threatening to acquire, theatres for the purpose of intimidating or coercing an exhibitor to book and exhibit the firm’s pictures. Sixty days are allowed the company by the order to discontinue these practices. This decision is considered the most important one as affecting the cinema industry since its inception.—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
