AT ADDINGTON OR RICCARTON?
CLUB DEFERS QUESTION Considerable discussion took place at the annual meeting of members of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club regarding the suggestion that the club should race on the Canterbury Jockey Club’s course at Riccarton. As no conference has yet taken place between the officials of the Jockey Club and the Trotting Club, the president, Mr. J. H. Williams, informed the meeting that nothing binding will be done until the members have had the opportunity of making known their opinion on the question.
ADDINGTON MORE SUITABLE Mr. J. J. Wethered pursued the matter still further, and moved that it was not desirable that the club hold its meetings at the Riccarton racecourse. He contended that Addington was the better place for trotting, it being nearer to the city.
NO NEED FOR DISCUSSION Mr. A. Smith pointed out that there was no need for any dissatisfaction among members. He reminded them that there was an old saying that ‘•East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,” and this, he maintained, was not applicable to trotting and racing. An amendment by Mr. F. W. Johnston, that the subject be postponed for the present until the matter was brought forward by the committee, with proper facts and figures, was carried. And there the question rests for the present.
