Senior Sergeant of Police Faces Charge of Perjury
TIMARU MINING OPTIONS CASE Press Association. INVERCARGILL, To-day. GEORGE SCANDRETT, Senior-Sergeant of Police, was charged at the Police Court this morning, on private information, with committing perjury during the hearing of cases in the Magistrate’s Court, regarding the mining options near Timaru.
JT is alleged that Senior-Sergeant Scandrett swore that he had no interest direct or indirect, in any claim held by Patrick Cairns, and that he had never purchased from him any interest in options.
Mr. Hanlon, for the defence, said that it was his wife and not the accused who was interested in these options. The accused reserved his defence and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
