WATER CATCHMENTS
LAND IN WAITAKERES OFFER TO CITY COUNCIL The intention of the City Council regarding the acquisition of land in the Waitakere catchment areas, Avas,asked by Mr. G. H. Davis, Avho informed the council last evening that he held 3,000 acres of bush-clad country in the area concerned. As there Avere 12 million feet of standing timber on the property, and he Avas desirous of negotiating for its sale, and the burning off and grassing of the property, he required to knoAV his position. The city engineer pointed out that the Waterworks Commission had stressed the necessity of full investigation of the areas, and a decision as to AA'hether Hunua ranges development should precede or follow the lower Huia pumping development. To alloAV forest to be cut on reserves likely to be required would be lamentable, and its effects irreparable.
The engineer suggested that Mr Davis should be asked not to take any action until a decision Avas reached. A committee was appointed to go into the Question.
