HOBSON BAY
INDUSTRIALISATION SCHEME COUNCIL DISAPPROVES IT seems to me that we should express some opinion regarding Hobson Bay. I think the . council will desire to put on record its disapproval of the suggested scheme.” This statement was made to the City Council last evening by Cr. J. A. C. Allum, referring to the opinion expressed by the conference of engineers that the area, reclaimed, would be particularly suitable for commercial development. “The city engineer is associated with the report, and we require to indicate from our point of view that we oppose this area being used for industrial purposes. The Harbour Bpard might tell us to mind our own business, but it is merely disassociating ourselves from the opinion of the engineer,” remarked Cr. Allum.
Cr. Ellen Melville: What we want to make clear is that the matter has never been before the council, and we have expressed no opinion.
The council decided to ask a com mittee to report on the position.
