IMPUDENT THEFTS FROM HOTEL ROOMS
SLEEPING MAN ROBBED by night into a fel-low-lodger’s room, Patrick McGivern “borrowed” a pair of trousers, and after taking cash from the pockets, left them in the passage. He won't be repeating the act for a month. McGivern pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing rings and money valued at £6, the property of Evelyn Boulton, and £ 1 in money, the property of James Winter. Chief-Detective Cummings said that accused had got into the Waitemata Hotel, and having a key to a secondfloor room, stole the rings and money, which belonged to an employee. “He was fined in May for being illegally on premises,” said the chiefdetective. Accused’s explanation was that he had been drinking. The Chief-Detective: That is the excuse he gave last time. He is nothing but an impudent thief. McGivern was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
