When the question of expending the sum of £1,050, such sum being 10 per cent, of the amount of £10,500 authorised for the purchase of new buses was being considered at Monday night’s meeting of the Palmerston North Borough Council, the advisabiliy of giving preference to the British article was put forward by one councillor. Thirteen tenders had been received for the supply of a new chassis, the amounts ranging from £691 to £1,630, and it was recommended that the lower one be accepted. There was a difference of £lO4 between the .uwest American and the lowest British tender, but it was pointed out that the chassis recommended by the committee was of similar type to one it present used in the bus service and the committee did not want any further makes. The committee’s recommendation was agreed to. |
