GETTING IN EARLY
CHRISTMAS DAY TRAINS MR. POTTER’S QUESTION (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reported .) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. After giving notice of an urgent question in the House of Representatives to-day, Mr. V. H. Potter mentioned the matter of the Christmas Day trains. This brought a quiet question from Mr. Speaker: “Is this a matter of urgency?” Mr. Potter: Yes. Mr. Speaker, it is. I want to give the Government plenty of time to think about it. Mr. Speaker: You are thinking six months ahead. Mr. Potter continued and asked the Prime Minister if ordinary trains would be run on Monday, December 26, and whether the men would be paid Sunday rates or ordinary rates. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, said there was a special agreement under which it was provided that when Christmas Day fell on Sunday ordinary pay would be provided and a day’s leave given later to those who were required to go on duty.
