Although smaller land agents complain of being unable to satisfy the demand for houses at a reasonable rental, the position in regard to letting seems to be easing off, and rents above 30s a week are dropping. The demand for houses is not nearly so great as it was 12 months ago. Many people are solving the rent problem by sharing homes or living in rooms. The story from smaller agents was the same. Many asked, but few were satisfied, simply because the agents did not have houses on their books. Rents stopped many, for most prospective clients desired rents ranging from 22s 6d a week to 27s 6d, and agents cannot provide houses at those prices. One agent told a SUN reporter that if he could get houses to let at those rents he could satisfy a dozen people a day.
