FAILURE OF N.Z. BATSMEN RHODES TOO CUNNING SEVEN MEN OUT FOR 133 THE New Zealand cricketers are not shaping well against Yorkshire. The county in its first innings made 377, and New Zealand has lost seven wickets for 133. There was not much play yesterday. No start was made till the afternoon was well on. The wicket was wet and the visitors fell a prey to the bowling of Rhodes.
By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. THERE was no play till 4.20. The wicket was saturated and lifeless, but Rhodes had the batsmen most carefully watched. Mills and Lowry, the not-out men of Saturday, were 20 minutes getting six.
Mills batted for 50 minutes. He fell to a brilliant catch at squareleg. Lowry hit hard in the pluckiest fashion. He hit five fours, and he batted for 140 minutes. At 24 he was missed at the wicket. He was caught out at the boundary. The others made a poor fist against Rhodes’s twisters. The attendance was negligible. Stumps were drawn early because of the bad light.
