RENOWN COLLIERIES

Good progress continues to be made, despite bad weather conditions, in the preliminary work of the Renown Collieries, near Huntly. Two out of the four tunnels have been driven, a third is nearing completion, only the last eight chains remaining to be done. Three shifts of men are employed by the contractors tunnelling, and two by the company on its own mining development. Good coal is plentiful, and now visible. The only remaining big item i is the completion of the long rope road i to Rotowaro station, and this will en- | tail about six months’ work before coal | can be railed from the screen’s site.
