G.O.C. Bus Claim Against Council

DISPOSAL OF PLANT QUESTION OF COMPETITION The hearing of the transport pute between the Mount Eden Mote, Bus Company, Ltd., and the Auckljjj City Corporation, which was last month on account of the of his Honour Mr. Justice Herd®*, for the Hamilton sessions, was sumed this morning. Associated with Mr. Justice Herd, man are the Hon. E. \V. Alison, a®, sessor for the company, and Mr q_ R. Hutchinson, for the corporation. Mr. V. R. Meredith and Mr. J. _vra_ stead are appearing for the plainaj company, and Mr. A. H. Johnstone aat Mr. Stanton for the corporation. The claim brought by the General Omnibus Company, a branch of Mount Eden Company, called on the council to take over the vehicles and plant on the Avondale, New Lyns, and Glen Eden routes (known as G.O.C. buses). The company claimed from the council £35,485 as the price of the buses and other property. The council contends that the com. pany is not in substantial competition with the trams, and that, therefore, the corporation is under no obligation to take them over. Further evidence on the question of competition was taken to-day. (Proceeding.)
