MISHAP IN AYR STREET STORM WATER THE CAUSE Forty feet of heavy stone-walling, niI *K feet in built in connection the Ayr Street improvements, collapsed during the week-end, following heavy rains. Provision had been made for seepJge being drained out under the wall, hut the filling behind the wall became saturated in the heavy' rain, and the *al. could not support the weight, with, , e result that about 40ft. of it colapsed altogether, and the remainder vaa pushed out of position and badly cracked, so that it will have to be reconstructed. is now being considered whether a stone wall will do the work required, J whether reinforced concrete will ha ve to be put in. Extra provision had been made to storm-water away from the wall oy surface channels, but these were uisturbed last week by the lowering of w ater-pipes on the high level road, th *s is blamed for the mishap, nich will cost a great deal to repair.
