"PETTICOAT LANE”

A GREAT SUCCESS Owing to the unprecedented success of the Takapuna Boating Club's fair at Bayswater, the committee have decided to extend the season for another two nights. In spite of the heavy rain that was falling, a large number of people left their firesides to visit Petticoat Lane last Saturday night. All the numerous stalls of the gaily-dressed costermongers were well patronised, while the crowd in the Fun Factory downstairs testified to its popularity. The Haunted Castle was once more in great demand and contained, in addition to mysterious lights and sliding floors, an ultra-modern spook. During the evening selections were rendered by the Port Auckland Band, and a short sketch was presented blithe children of Petticoat Lane. A Spanish dance and a rather exaggerated modern step by Miss Goldie Lawson were well received. Mr H. Melville gave an exhibition of skilful character delineation in the character role of barrel-organ grinder. The whole programme will be repeated on Wednesday and Friday evenings when the fair will again be open As before, a free boat will leave Auckland on those nights 7.40 p.m.
