At the Henley regatta to-day in the race for the drand Challenge Cop Thames beat Leander by threequarters of a length in 7min. 16sec. In the Diamond Sculls Lee (Worcester College) beat Wright (Canada) by one length in 9rnin. 6sec. Wright seemed to be winning easily 100yds. from the post, but suddenly got into difficulties. At the Sydney Stadium last evening Tiger Payne knocked out George Thompson in the eighth round for the heavy-weight championship of Australia. Payne was lucky to win, as in the seventh round he was almost knocked out. However, in the following round he hit wildly and managed to place a right to Thompson’s jaw which dropped him.
