ST. JOHN’S DAY

SPECIAL CHURCH SERVICES Commemoration of St. John’s Day will be by a special service at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Parnell, to-morrow afternoon, conducted by Archbishop Averill, sub-prelate of the Order of St. John. Members of the St. John Ambulance Association and Brigade will assemble at the Newmarket Reserve at 2.30 p.m., and will march to the church headed by the Port of Auckland Band. Mr. C. J. Tunks, assistant-commis-sioner l'or Auckland, will be in charge. The Unitarian Church advertise a special lecturette for to-morrow evening. when the . Rev. Albert Thornhill, M.A., will review the latest scientific theories of cosmic evolution and human origins in an address entitled “Where scientists went wrong.” At the Spiritual Scientists’ Church Mrs. Harris-Roberts will speak on the meaning of the spiritualists’ badge. The Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour will continue his evangelistic services at the Airedale Street Mission. Special selections will be played on the organ by Mr. Res. Takle. The usual Sunday afternoon meeting will be held at the X.M.C.A. There will be a song service led fc*y Mr. Vernon T. Drew. The morning service at St. Matthew’s Church will be taken by f anon Grant Cowen, while the preacher at the evening service will be Rev. rhos. Southworth. The anniversary of the settlement of the pastorate will be celebrated at the Ponsonby Baptist Church. The Rev. E. Xicholls will take the services and the choir will sing special music. •The Associated Churches of Christ will hold services follow: I onsonby Road. Mr. H. P. Leng; Dominion Road. Mr. T. M.
