ORIETTE OF ARRAS Describing the reason why his baby daughter is to be christened Oriette. ihe Rev. W J. Rogers, vicar of St: Aldan’s, Bristol East, stated: the bitter winter of 1917 I was in the trenches at Basseaux, just south of Arras, a communication trench ran straight out of what was left of the village street. For some reason nobody knows an old French woman and a J'ttie girl remained in the village, and ,n a lean to under the shadow of the mined church served coffee to the Tommies. . The girl was the sweetest child ‘maginable, and her name was Oriette. fell in love with my fur gloves and u sd to cuddle them to her little breast r fcr * went in for coffee. I said at the time that if ever God Save me a little girl shfe should bear the same name in grateful memory of service to our men and myself. I am seeping the vow.
