When a baby has been alive a year and its first birthday comes round we say here that it is one year old. But in Japan they say instead that baby is two years old. So, you see, you would be one year older if you lived in Japan. And you might even be older still if your birthday happened to come on December 31. Suppose you were born on tliis day a few hours before the end of the old year. Well, as soon as the new year had arrived you would be reckoned to be two years old, though really you were only a few hours old! Isn’t this a funky custom?
