WORK AT ARAPUNI
MEN UNSETTLED CONFERENCES PROCEEDING (From Our Oxen Correspondent.) ARAPUNI, Thursday. The men at Arapuni do not appear to have yet settled down, and a movement is on foot to break away from the New Zealand Workers’ Union. A conference was held yesterday and another was arranged for to-day. Mr. J. Kelly, president of the local union, favours breaking away, while Mr. T. Byers, the vice-president, stands for unity. One of the grievances is the levy of £1 annually for headquarters. Those who only work a week or two on the job get no benefit from the contribution. The local union considers the company has broken faith. and unless agreement is arrived at work may again edase.
