OPOTIKI BOROUGH COUNCIL
Mr. J. T. Thompson waited on the Opotiki Borough Council at its last monthly meeting in connection with the proposed stop-banks to prevent flooding of the town. After a discussion, it was resolved “that the Public Works Department be asked for the services of an engineer to report on the scheme.” The Hon. K. S. Williams wrote that a deputation would be introduced to tile Main Highways Board by Mr. Linklater, M.P., in regard to a subsidy for main highway construction through boroughs. It was resolved to contribute £4 4s to the Bay 'of Plenty Development League, and Crs. Pearson and Burrett were appointed to represent the borough at the annual meeting of the league. Mr. L. W. Letts, proprietor of the borough electric-power works, wrote in regard to the purchase of his works by the Bay of Plenty Power Board, and asked if the council would agree to the termination of the deed of delegation existing between the council and himself. The council resolved that the finance committee meet Mr. Letts and report on the position. The report of the special committee, which was appointed to look into the matter of the fire brigade requirements, was adopted. A one-ton chassis is to be purchased and will be properly equipped for fire-fighting purposes.
