Motorists, he said, had been scepti' cal when the main highways schein* had been instituted, but the Prin#| Minister had said “give it a trial. Now they had tried it, and it ba* produced a result no better than th«f had anticipated. The road problem*: in the South Island were entirely dif'j ferent from those in the North, motorists would feel far happier if tb» control were equitably divided, cording to the respective requirero**® of the islands, in accordance with tW number of vehicles in each island.
