THE SEASONS ( Written for THE STS'. Y.) | T'nder the green curling world of leaves j Sleek-bosomed Sinn nice sprawls upon the grass. . Dreaming of brazen noons and twinkling eves. j And the bright pageant of the dogs that pass. J A little time she sleeps: then, leaking. | flies . As Autumn, clutching a sheaf of scarlet dawns And raing dusks, comes tramping ! through the trees j And strews her blood-red leaves upon ! the lawns. j A little, and the old hag Winter comes, j Holding her white-fang’d pack on ! straining leash ' In grim restraint. Then suddenly, the drums ; Roll out across the snows, the trumpets \ flash, ■ And. loosed from the bonds of ; gigantic birth. Spring carves her flaming legend on ! the earth. A.R.D.F. j Auckland. THE TREE (Written for THIS SUN.) j Give me the wind and the rain. [ The strong salt gush, of the air. f Let the rain race through my streaming branches, ! And let my boughs be torn with the ecstasy of despair. I have known nights of moonlight, Now give me wild winds that rise To hurl white stars through my dark, drowned boughs. And toss my passionate darkness to the skies. Givc me the wind and the. rai ■i. The strong salt gush of the air!
