1926-27 SEASON’S STATISTICS

AUCKLAND FIXTURE VIRTUALLY ENDED PRESENT SEASON’ While there are four small light harness events to be decided before 1 ooc C o£ taln is final *y drawn across the 19-6--7 season, the results wril] not seriously affect the season’s statistics although, perhaps, in the riders and d ?n e , FS struggle for supremacy thev will lend keen interest and excitement in view of the closeness of the eonbetween the Canterbury reinsmen, D. Withers and M. B. Edwards, in Which the former has a lead of one and a-half points. VIRTUALLY CLOSED The season was, however, virtually closed with the conclusion of the Auckland Club’s recent winter fixture and trotting statisticians have been busily engaged compiling returns of the leading winning owners, horses and sires. These make very interesting reading. AUCKLAND WELL REPRESENTED In this department, Mr. J. R. McKenzie, the Wellington sportsman, who is the proud owner of the champion pacer, Great Bingen, heads the list for the second season in succession, his winnings last year reaching £■ 7,530. It is gratifying to followers of the popular pastime in the Auckland Province to find this season two enthusiasts, Messrs. G. McMillan and J. T. Paul, among the leading halfdozen successful owners. WINNING OWNERS

The following list gives the amounts collected in stakes by the eight leading winning owners:

J. R. McKenzie (Wellington) .. 5,545 G. McMillan (Auckland) 3,081 C. E. Lindsay (Canterbury) .. 3,620 G. S. Simpson (Canterbury) .. 2,754 G. J. Barton (Dunedin) 2,713 J. T. Paul (Auckland) 2,430 R. Lindsay, and winner of the 1926 Auckland Cup, heads the list of winning horses, having credited his owner with 3,455 sovereigns as a result of the season’s operations. Last year Great Bingen achieved this distinction with a total of 4,015 sovereigns. Sea Pearl, owned in Auckland, is a good second on the list this season. By again producing the greatest number of winners for the closing season, Logan Pointer has eclipsed the remarkable record of that great sire, also an American importation, Harold Dillon. Logan Pointer’s progeny this season have accounted for the fine sum of £23,913 10s, while last year the collective value in stakes amassed by representatives of the defunct horse was £29,568. Nelson Bingen has also been very successful during the 1926-27 season, his stock winning £21,965 10s as against £18,511 last year.
