GREAT PIANIST’S VISIT OPENING CONCERT OF SEASON It is a pleasure to be able to record that the first of the long-desired Paderewski concerts was attended, last night, by a very large and responsive audience. Not for some time has any visiting artist been given such wholehearted applause; and the chief reasons for this are easy to discover —they may be summed up in two muchabused words, “personality” and “temperament.” Few pianists, and few interpretative artists of any kind, can have expressed themselves so completely as Paderewski, and few have had so much to express. His life, as everyone knows, has been full of varied interests—social, political and literary, not only musical. The result is a nature far richer and deeper than that of the typical virtuoso.
