NAVY ON THE MAT THISTLE DISPUTE DEFERRED At a meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Football Association held last evening the Thistle Club dispute was quickly disposed of, the chairman, Mr. Menzies, stating that so far legal opinion had not been received. It was decided that consideration be deferred until next Saturday afternoon. A protest was received from the Mount Albert third intermediate grade stating that the Blockhouse Bay team had played men over the age limit. The Bay team was deprived of its points and Mount Albert was awarded the match. Various members of the committee were of the opinion that there were many clubs playing men over age and it was decided to notify the clubs with teams in the third intermediate grade that action would be taken in any future cases where clubs were found to have broken this rule. A sub-committe was set up consisting of Messrs. A. Fraser, T. G. Wilkes, J. M. Downie, F. H. Baker, G. Ballantyne and H. Reason, to deal with matters in connection with the visit of the Canadian Soccer team. NAVY IN TROUBLE It was reported by Referee .1. R. Orford that a man named Smith, of the Navy team, had used an offensive remark to him and he had therefore ordered him off the field. “The Navy team then proceeded to walk off. so the game was abandoned before half-time,” continued the report. In its apology the Navy Club stated that the unfortunate incident had occurred through the loose way iu which the game was controlled, but admitted that that did not excuse the unsporting action of the Navy team. It was finally decided that the whole of the Navy team be asked to appear before the management committee next week, and that in the meantime Smith be suspended.
