SEMI-FINALISTS The four semi-finalists at the head of the poll, will, for the week commencing Friday, as previously arranged, be submitted to a series of acting and screen tests at the Majestic Theatre. The public will continue to be the sole judges, per medium of the voting card, as to which of the four semi-'finalists are to be “Miss Auckland” and her maid of honour, and participate as finalists in the interprovincial contest for the choice of “Miss New Zealand 1927.” The acting and screen tests will be one of the most interesting features ever presented at the Majestic. They will clearly demonstrate the ability of the four leading semi-finalists and aid the public in its choice of Miss Auckland and her maid of honour. The Majestic management has arranged another novel and beautiful setting, to give the girls the best possible background to show their acting ability. On the screen, the usual high-class programme is shown. There are excellent topical news, scenics, and interest films, including one of Kawau, Auckland's popular holiday resort, and a comedy, “Open Spaces.” A special musical score is played by the “All Soloists’ Orchestra.” “The Cave Man,” the film version of Gilette Burgess’s story of the same name, is the principal picture. It is a bright, sparkling comedy-drama, filled with laughter from beginning to end It tells of a girl who tried to make a societj r man of a coal worker, and succeeded in making him too good for his own friends, and not good enough for hers. Then she realised she loved him, and he carried her off in true “cave man” fashion. EVERYBODY’S “FASHIONS FOR WOMEN” “Fashions For Women,” the Paramount photo-play which is to be shown at Everybody’s to-morrow, has the distinction of being one of the few productions in the screen’s history to be produced almost entirely by women. The film not only marks Esther Ralston’s first starring vehicle, but it lays claim to being one of the small group of pictures directed by a feminine hand or voice. It was filmed under the
