SYNOD SESSION CONTINUED THE FINANCIAL POSITION (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. ’J'HE principal business before the Waikato Diocesan Synod at its afternoon session on Tuesday was consideration of the Trust Board a report. It was stated that the board had received from the General Trust Board the funds allocated to the diocese as set out in the commission’s report, and also took over the administration of the trust properties, both diocesan and parochial, from July 31. 1926. After paying interest charges, the following reductions of principal of parochial loans had been effected since July 31 1926:—Hamilton, £47 11s LOd: Morrinsville, £25; Ohura, £22 10s 9d; Putaruru, £47 16s 7d: Ohaupo, £650. In the case of the Ohaupo loan, that was reduced by the sale of land at Ohaupo. The diocese having assumed the responsibility for the Maori Mission work within the diocese as from April I, 1927, the General Trust Board had handed the board £2,941 3s 4d on account of the Native Pastorate Trust, and that had been invested. With the consent of the Standing - Committee £56 15s 8d was transferred from income of the Maori mission, making the investment £3,000. STANDING COMMITTEE'S OPERATIONS The report of the Standing Committee of the diocese stated that Archdeacon Mac Murray appealed for £10,500 to augment the capital funds of the diocese, and in February, 1927, the Bishop issued an appeal for a further £40,000. Toward the sum of about £ 50,000 aimed at, well over £12,000 had been promised or given to date, including £6,800 paid in cash. The amount of grants to stipends for the year ending March 31, 1927, was £715. The following districts relinquished their grants at the beginning of the 1926-27 financial year:—Fitzroy, Paeroa, Putaruru, Taumarunui, Waihi and Waitara. The new parochial district of Kowhai. had been established from April, 1927, and the first vicar installed. The Rev. F. G. Harvie had been appointed clerical diocesan secretary from July 1, in view of the increase in diocesan work. He had also been appointed diocesan chaplain. Mr. A. B. Whyte would continue to act as diocesan treasurer and registrar. The six clerical canons, consisting of the Revs. F. G. Harvie, J. L. Kayll, J. W. Kempthorne, G. H. Gavin, E. H. Strong and E. S. Wayne, took office at St. Peter’s Cathedral in the evening, during the ceremony for the installation of the Rev. G. R. Barnett as dean.
