jlr. H. G. Cousins will leave for Wellington this evening. Mr. John Alexander will travel South by the express this evening. The Hon. J. B. Gow, M.L.C., went South by the limited last evening. Mr. Meld rum, S.M., of Greymouth, is at present in Auckland. He is staying ..t the Star Hotel. Mr. D. Rodie, commercial manager, jjew Zealand Railways, arrived in Auckland by the Limited this morning. Mr. J. S. Dickson, M.P., Mr. E. D. McLennan, M.P., Mr. F. N. Bartram, M.P., and Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., returned to Wellington last evening.. The member for fFauranga, Mr. C. B. Macmillan, is confined to his house at Katikati because of a seriously sprained ankle. yy*. F. H. Leonard, who is on a business tour of Europe and North America, is at present in Vancouver. He is expected to leave for Auckland this week.
Mr. J. W. Roberts, secretary of the Watersiders’ Federation, returned from an organising trip to the Northern ports yesterday. He will leave tomorrow for Tauranga.
Mr. Henry Spurrier, managing director of Leyland Motors, Ltd., England, and Mr. D uncan F. Bauch op, manager of the New Zealand branch, will arrive in Auckland to-morrow.
The headmaster of Taihape District High School, Mr. W. E. Hird, has been appointed teachers* advocate for the Wanganui education district on the Grading Appeal Board. Mr. Hird has recently returned from a health visit to America.
M. Ignace Paderewski, the famous Polish pianist, arrived in Auckland this morning, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. He is accompanied by Madame Paderewski, Mr. L. G. Sharpe (personal representative), Mr. Arthur J. Tait (representing j. and N. Tait), Mr. W. Harding, and Mr. Eldon Joubert.
Constable H. S. T. Butler, who has been transferred to Devonport after five and a-half years' service with the Auckland police, was presented with a dinner service last evening by his comrades at the barracks. Constable D. J. O’Carroll, who is also leaving the Auckland station for Devonport. was presented with a wristlet watch. Senior-Sergeant Edwards, Sergeant Cal well, and several constables spoke, and conveyed the good wishes of everyone to .the guests of the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Johnson, of Palmerston North, leave by the Corinthic from Wellington on Thursday en route for the Old Country. Mr. Johnson, who had been resident in the Dominion for the past 24 years, has suffered ill-health for some time and he now purposes taking up residence in the south of England. Well known throughout the length and breadth of the Dominion as a breeder of poultry and dogs, he has also filled the role of judge in both sections at shows from Auckland to Invercargill.
